Paul Henty in Gents Compound more »]]> St George’s archer’s have enjoyed great success at Bronte‘s Spring Weekend shoot. A Double York/Hereford round shot over two days, the weather was, to say the least, variable and challenging; calm with bright sunshine to strong winds and rain.

Paul Henty in Gents Compound had a good first day with a score of 1096, claiming his Blue Rose award and just missing out on the Red Rose by 4 points (Paul did not shoot on the second day).

Charles Rawson finished 3rd in Gents Recurve, having been on and off the leader board all weekend, with a score of 1950 for the double, beating his own club record by just a single point.

Valerie Henty ended the first day’s shooting in the lead of Ladies Recurve, and retained that lead all through the second day to take the winners trophy. Valerie’s final score of 1970 was also 122 points higher than her own previous club record for the double.

Well done to Charles and Valerie (and me).

EDIT: Just to make it clear if you don’t have a handicap at the moment then to have the best chance in the competition you need to shoot 3 simple (e.g. Warwick) rounds to gain a handicap and THEN shoot your first round for the competition BEFORE 31st May.

Barbara was a much-loved club member with a great enthusiasm for archery, particularly Clout, and her estate kindly donated a silver more »]]> A record turn out of 37 members of St George’s Archery Club took part in the 10^th Barbara Williams Memorial Clout which was held on the club’s ground at St John Fisher School last weekend.

Barbara was a much-loved club member with a great enthusiasm for archery, particularly Clout, and her estate kindly donated a silver tankard to be used as a prize for a club competition set up in her memory.

Once the early fog lifted conditions were perfect and some excellent scores were recorded with a handicap system enabling archers of different bowstyles and experience to shoot against each other.

Novice barebow archer Mike Stretton was the winner of the gent’s competition with club President, Clive Roebuck, in second and Roger Honeysett, who only completed his beginners’ course last weekend, shooting exceptionally well to claim third place. 

Tournament organiser Carol Fairbrother won ladies’ section and also the Ted Mallet Award for the best arrow of the day.  Carol Spencer was second and Moira Salmons third whilst Natalie Webster narrowly outscored Sylvia Bear in the beginners’ category. 

Tom Woolley, who holds five Yorkshire records for clout archery, continued his fine form from last season by winning the u18 competition with Joe Wallace and Inez Tully second and third.  John Backshall put in an excellent score to win the beginners’ award.

Scoring in the u13 section was particularly close with Ben Daniel claiming first place closely followed by Tom Ketley, Chris Hill and Harry Street.  Tom’s base score of 48 was confirmed as a new club record for the 100 yard barebow round.

The Barbara Williams Memorial Trophy for the best overall score was presented by Guest of Honour, Mandy Hill, to Mike Stretton and the clout competition season gets underway in earnest next month with the Yorkshire Championships which are being held near Driffield.

All target shooting will be outdoors from Tuesday 3 April 2012.

Club Summer shoots are Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6:00 p.m. in April and moving to 7:00 p.m. as the nights get lighter.  All shoots take place at St John Fisher School.  Sundays as usual from 10:00 a.m.

The First Course will focus on Motivation, Imagery, more »]]> We’re delighted to offer you the chance to improve your Archery skills and technique.  Harrogate Archery Club has teamed up with Leeds Trinity University College to deliver two courses aimed at Coaches and Archers.  The courses will take place at the College on Brownberrie Lane, Horsforth, Leeds.

The First Course will focus on Motivation, Imagery, Visualisation and Anxiety Control.  Date: 24th April 2012  6:30-9:30 p.m. £15

The second is about Energy and Nutrition and will take place on Tuesday 22nd May 2012  6:30 – 9:30 p.m. £15

Numbers for each course limited to 25. Bookings and payment must be made in advance .
